8 Important Things You Need to Carry When Traveling for Business

From the right clothes to electronic devices, you need to be prepared well when traveling for business. Click here for important things you need to carry.

When you’re going on a business trip, it’s easy to pack the bare minimum to ease your burden. Traveling with a lot of things, especially when you’re flying, is a hassle so lightening your load can make your life a lot easier.

What should you bring though? What things are essential when you’re traveling for business?

We’ve got a few answers for you.

Keep reading for our quick and handy business trip packing list to make your next business trip effortless.

1. Clothes That Won’t Wrinkle

When you’re packing for your trip, remember that you may not have the ability or time to iron out your clothes before you go to any important meetings or conferences. This may not be a priority to you, but if it is, be careful about the fabric of the clothes that you’re bringing.

Some cotton and wool blends won’t wrinkle when you pack them, and picking dark colors can help keep wrinkly fabrics looking neater than they actually are.

When all of your clothes wrinkle, you may want to bring extra clothing bags so that they can stay neat, but this will add to your travel load.

2. Leisure and Business Outfits

Depending on how long your trip is, it’s likely that you’re going to be spending some time outside of “the work zone”. Consider what else you might be doing and pack accordingly.

You should have one business outfit for every day that you’ll be attending meetings or conferences. It’s easier and more efficient if you have items that can be reused in different outfits without being obvious.

Bring one “nice” casual outfit if you anticipate work outings at a restaurant or for drinks. You want to look more casual than your “work clothes” but still classy and put together.

If you know you’ll be using the hotel gym or pool, or going out on your own when you have free time, bring the appropriate clothing.

Don’t forget the shoes!

3. All Necessary Devices (and Their Chargers)

You know that you need your laptop, but what about your tablet? Would it make any of your meetings more efficient?

Modern devices are small and easy to carry around. It doesn’t hurt to bring extras even if you aren’t sure that you’ll need them.

Make sure that they’re fully-charged when you leave and that you bring along chargers so you don’t run into problems while you’re on the trip. Don’t rely on hotels to keep chargers at the front desk.

Also, make sure that you have everything that you’re going to need to be downloaded onto your devices and that all unnecessary things that may slow your device or drain its battery are wiped clean. See this guide to clear your cache.

4. Business Cards

When you’re out of town for a conference, having business cards on hand is essential. You want to make sure that you’re marketing yourself and your business appropriately. Networking is the main purpose of a business conference!

While business cards are going out of style, there’s something about a well-designed card that can still hold people’s attention.

Make sure that people are able to get in touch.

This is also great for expanding your services to new areas if this is something that your business is able to do! Let people in the town that you’re conferencing in know who you are and what you’re about.

5. Carry-On Luggage

If it’s possible, make sure that your luggage is the appropriate size for carry-on travel on a plane.

Generally speaking, you’re able to have one carry-on luggage piece and one small bag or box (like a purse, lunchbox, or laptop bag) without extra charges, though this will depend on the airline.

Keeping your luggage small will also make things easier for you when you arrive at your destination. It’s easy to overpack, and giving yourself a finite space in which to put everything will help prevent some of those problems.

6. Mobile Internet

If you’re able, bring your own internet supply along with you.

Some hotels offer great wifi, though it might be for an increased price. Most offer some kind of complimentary wifi, but it’s either slow or limited to a few hours total. When you need to be working on the road you need to have a reliable connection.

Many phones can be made into mobile internet hotspots or you can purchase a mobile internet device.

7. A Power Strip

Hotels don’t always have the most convenient power outlets. You should keep a power strip with you so that you can charge all of your devices easily from one outlet.

This is especially true if you’re traveling abroad. Other countries have different outlets, meaning that you’re going to need an adapter for every device that you own. If you have a power strip you can get one adapter and charge everything from the one spot.

8.Travel-Size Toiletries

Most hotels are going to have a small supply of toiletries for you to use, but you’ll make life easier for everyone (yourself included) if you bring your own.

Make sure that you know the travel guidelines for liquids and gels if you’re traveling via plane.

Bring a toothbrush, toothpaste, any shower supplies that you need, and any extra things that a hotel may not supply. This is also a good time to ensure that you’ve packed any necessary medications.
